Our scholars, led by Spanish Teacher Milena Aldana, celebrated Las Posadas before break.
In Mexico, Las Posadas are celebrated in the days leading up to Christmas. It is a reenactment of the search by Joseph and Mary to find a safe place to stay in Bethlehem. They knock on several doors and are turned away for lack of room. Finally, they take refuge in a stable, where Jesus is born.
At JPII, the Posada featured Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, the Wise Men, angels and shepherds. They led a procession around school, knocking on classroom doors, and ended in the gym, where they took turns trying to break piƱatas.
